Working locally

Your maps live in this browser.

Browser data can be cleared or lost. Save and export often, especially when moving between devices.

01

Set up the interaction

Keep the focus on an activity, not a product or technology alone.

02

Map the interaction

Add one row for each important moment. Begin with what you can observe; add interpretation only where it helps you understand the interaction.

Remember, not all moments will have both human and system behaviour present. Always observe first, then interpret.

HOW TO USE THIS INTERFACE

Using the Interaction Map

This is a digital aid for making a simple interaction map. You may sketch or map manually first, then use this tool to keep a clear working version.

Doing
What does the person do, choose, pause, repeat, or change?
Knowing
What does the person need to know, notice, remember, or understand?
Feeling
What qualities appear in the experience? Base this on observation or what the person tells you.
Input
What does the system receive or detect?
Process
What happens in response to the person’s input?
Output
What does the system communicate, change, or make available?

Keep one interaction in focus. If your topic is broad, describe the specific activity you want to observe.
