Design Methods is a reference library for exploring methods across the design process. Methods are positioned against the four phases of the Double Diamond to indicate where they may be useful, while recognising that design processes are iterative and methods may apply across more than one phase.
Browse the library by phase, use the phase filters to focus the view, or search for a method by name or terminology associated with it.
Search considers both method names and terminology contained within method information. Matches in a method name are prioritised, followed by relevant terms found in its description, guidance, and process.
For example, searching for speculative will prioritise methods with “speculative” in their name while also revealing other methods where speculative approaches are discussed.
Select a method to open its full entry. Each entry may contain the following sections:
The phases and processes shown here are guides rather than fixed instructions. A method may be adapted, repeated, combined with other methods, or used at different points in a project depending on its context and purpose. They traverse across multiple phases for very reason.
Choose methods in response to what you need to learn, understand, make, or evaluate. Consider the evidence you already have, what remains uncertain, and what the method will contribute to your design process.
